“For a Child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Perhaps we could get so familiar with the stirring, encouraging prophecy of the birth of Jesus from Isaiah, the Prophet. We hear it every Christmas season and perhaps we miss the core message in its phraseology. Isaiah is declaring more than that the Messiah who was to come would be wonderful, but he is preaching to all who would listen a truth that is much more profound than that. This truth is also faith-stimulating, hope-giving, and very much so, life-altering. Read through that verse and reflect on the names that Isaiah attaches to the Son to be born, and the things he says about Him.
Can you see how under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Isaiah is telling us that the Messiah is exactly what every sinner desperately needs. Jesus is the answer to every destructive influence and consequence of sin. Read thru it again and see how the prophet Isaiah declares to us that Jesus is the solution to the sin that none of us can avoid or escape. Long before we were born, God ordained that One would come who would be the remedy for every sin that would infect us all. Let’s rejoice over our Messiah, Jesus Christ, The Lord!
From our family’s to yours, We wish you a Christ-filled Christmas!
